Or just start with "Swanye Field" and keep clicking the NEXT button at the bottom of each page. -- BTW, "Swanye Field" is where Casey Stengel (in 1927) used to manage the Toledo Mud Hens before moving to the NY Yankees. The Mud Hens are one of the very oldest professional baseball teams in America (Est. 1883) ... and even hired the first black players in 1884. - Toledo was also home to the Toledo Maroons, one of the original NFL football teams... as well as the Toledo Red Men (Redmen) basketball team, one of the original teams in the NBA. -- Plus, the greatest Heavyweight Championship Fight ever was fought in Toledo on July 4, 1919 between Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard. Sports have always been huge in Toledo. My Grandfather, Orien B. Hill, attended that event, as did people like Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and many other big celebrities of that era. It was the biggest event ever in the history of Toledo... even to this day.

PS: Toledo also had numerous car manufacturers and as many a 14 different breweries, in addition to countless other businesses and industries. The "Toledo" / "Pope-Toledo" became the Willy's Overland and was 2nd in size only to Ford. -- And Toledoan Roy Knubenshue designed, built and flew the first airship... and once landed it on top of the Spitzer Bldg. in downtown Toledo. He later flew it to NYC for the World's Fair. Roy was a HUGE an aviation pioneer... almost as big as the Wright Bros. were at the same time further down in Ohio in Dayton, OH.

Long story short, I feel VERY fortunate to have been born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. My father, both grandfathers and several uncles all worked for the New York Central System Railroad. I was raised in South Toledo... went to the Univ. of Toledo... taught at Waite High School... before moving to SE Florida. (See my profile on the right hand side of this blog.)

A Very New and Different President

Due to non-stop / wall-to-wall media coverage, I will not beleaguer this momentous event. Yes, I said momentous. The election of our first black President truly is momentous. And, I pray that he serves our nation well.

I do not care that he is black... although I am greatly troubled by the fact that he never properly proved he was born on American soil (as is the requirement to be President) and/or disprove that he was born in Kenya Africa, as his paternal grandmother and two half siblings still claim.

I do not care that he is a Democrat (D)... although I am deeply concerned that he is extremely "liberal" and will institute massive liberal-socialist spending and levy new taxes to pay for it all.

I do not care that he is young (only 48 years old) ... although I do care that he only had a few months of service in the U.S. Senate before he started running for President.

Lastly, because you have to be careful what you wish for... and who you vote for... I leave you to ponder these words:

"The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty to revive in the nation a spirit of unity and cooperation. It will preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life."

Shocking UAW Union Expendatures Exposed:

The link above speaks for itself. Keep in mind, this story is about the UAW's union ownership of a prestigious *Top 100 golf course resort (*according to Golf Digest magazine) that has lost over $23,000,000 in the last 5 years. In spite of this huge loss during the worst of economic times, the UAW has made no attempt to sell this expensive, burdensome and totally unnecessary / inappropriate asset. Having belonged to a couple of different unions myself in years past... (I was forced to join)... I can assure you that not one union member I have ever known would approve of their union dues being used for such extravagances as this UAW golf resort sitting on 1,000 acres of land.

Suffice to say: "Unions, by their nature and MO, are a microcosm of communism..... and we all know communism does not work." The story attached above makes this point very clearly. Union meetings should be held at union halls... or in rented facilities if more space is needed, such as a Ramada Inn, a Holiday Inn, etc. But then, did you ever see members of the USSR's Politburo ever live and work in cost-effective, humble facilities? - Answer: NO!
